I was on a lunch break from my job as a receptionist at a bourgeoisie gyno clinic in Ballard, and braved it through the drizzle to Caffe Fiore. There I found not only vegan scones, but also this amazing rat tail/one-inch-wide mullet! In Ballard! Who knew??

The folks at this table may have been a little weirded out when I was creepin them from across the room, but they were very friendly once I explained that I wasn't a creep, just a rat tail fanatic.

Points for having taper for days, being in a surprising location, and the fact that this actually is kind of just a tiny side mullet. See how it goes all the way up? How lovely!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dEVntXHe8Dc/TfF3OXpZ-AI/AAAAAAAAANg/inEqvGKUG7w/s320/46788978049_0.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5616401299057276930" />

Keeping Summer Alive on the Metro Transit 49

Spotted January 29th, 2011:

What are the ethics of sneaky camera phone pictures? it was last weekend, august 23rd and 24th, at Portland State University. i didn't make it to any of the workshops, but just checking out all the tables was pretty inspiring. other highlights included the multnomah county library taking free polaroids of people with a giant library card, tasty donated vegan cookies, and getting to see all the amazing art and words of my friends in the Boss Level Collective.

as i predicted, PZS was creepin and crawlin with tails - lots of extreme length and friendly folks getting psyced about having their picture taken.

The Silky Swirl
points for length, thickness, completely perfect twirl, and general locks-of-love worthiness.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/SLzgxrGX2WI/AAAAAAAAAFE/HgsJJFpgStc/s320/IMG_0636.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241311210340079970" />

The Extra-Long Padawan Braid
this one hardly fits in the frame! points for adroit braidwork - if i had a lightsaber i'd have totally chopped this one off for my collection.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/SLzgyGn1VjI/AAAAAAAAAFM/lbELyrzZNfI/s320/IMG_0635.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241311217728181810" />

Muscle Braid
another extra-long, classic tail. damn, these PZS folks are so dedicated to their tails, the concentration of tail length here was unmatched by any other event or location i've encountered! this is the kind of tail i'd be tempted to play with if i was sitting behind this lady on the bus and wasn't sure she could totally rip my hands off.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/SLzgyH7KcWI/AAAAAAAAAFU/KAInVec6DhY/s320/IMG_0630.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5241311218077692258" />

Secret Tail
way better without the hat! Paul gets the biggest kudos for braving possible death to capture this rare gem!

<img style="display:block; Arrow, Alaskas, Bad Dudes, and Purple Rhinestone Eagle were playing.

during the show i saw this guy who had a cool braided and doubled up side tail. when i asked if i could take a picture of it for my blog he said he didn't support blogs (which, uhh, whatever that's cool i guess), but when i countered that it was a RATTAIL BLOG and therefore inherently cooler than your average blog, he said that what he had was actually NOT a tail but a "sweat slick" or something totally crazy like that! i have no idea what he actually called it, but i think he had one on each side and maybe it was just some long hair braided into little pigtails but MAYBE it is a whole new hair style! so stay alert and let me know if you see this dude or anyone else with "sweat slicks"...

but, anyways:

Sam's Seattle Deluxe
points for incredible length, which shows obvious dedication to the rat tail lifestyle.

<img style="display:block; It used to be a full-blowner of a mullet, but appears to be making a tail transformation.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/SIG5gMU1awI/AAAAAAAAABA/D5cAQ1suPLE/s320/IMG_0113.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224661005442050818" />

Here's some random with a cutie-curl.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/SIG5gXsQE9I/AAAAAAAAABI/0mqUttKjLD0/s320/IMG_0116.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224661008493056978" />

This girl didn't have a rat-tail persay, but rather an amazing side-pony!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/SIG5hDtApDI/AAAAAAAAABY/f3kAcL_WwE4/s320/IMG_0122.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5224661020307399730" />

Jon Reddick wins TAIL OF THE WEEK. It saw a notable phase of popularity during the 1980s but can still be seen today, albeit in a rarer form. While the rattail has been worn by both genders, this haircut is observed most commonly in males. The individual with a rattail typically has his or her hair cut short all over their head except for a few strands in the back that are left to grow out.
The rattail usually curls naturally; however, it can be braided, treated as a dread, permed, straightened, or curled with an iron. In some instances, an individual might choose to grow several tails or grow a single tail very long."

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rattail_%28haircut%29)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/R-1pgi2mrBI/AAAAAAAAAAc/ZSsZ6nLTskQ/s320/126716857_90e689e4bd_o.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5182914754005871634" />

This morning I realized that my tail was just about a year old and really I don't need to carry around that much old stuff. Also I've got this little baby tail with a curl on the other side that is totally spring time fresh and needed some attention so I cut off big momma and that was that.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/R-1sTy2mrDI/AAAAAAAAAAs/TIbWgSe8RwY/s320/IMG_0834.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5182917833497422898" />

You could totally injure someone with that!

This is me when I first had my rattails:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/R-1nBi2mq_I/AAAAAAAAAAM/77TSrwSJV1Y/s320/DSCN1176.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5182912022406671346" />

This is Ms Tracey Campbell sporting a skinnier rattail and mustache snippet and some fresh steps:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_OZFJoyyjZnA/R-1pgS2mrAI/AAAAAAAAAAU/GIQ2wQS7pjY/s320/DSCF0138.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5182914749710904322" />

So I guess you should just send me all your fresh pix and we can catalog the resurgence of the tail.
